Debates, questions and statements

Proceedings in the Chambers provide public routes for scrutiny, explanation, argument and parliamentary decision.

Debates

Debates allow Members to examine legislation, Government policy and other matters. The presiding officer applies the procedure of the House and calls Members to speak according to that procedure.

Questions

Parliamentary questions may be oral or written. Questions and answers become parliamentary records when they are tabled and answered through the proper route.

Statements

Ministers may make oral or written statements to Parliament. A press release, GOV.UH article, Discord announcement or ministerial social post is not a parliamentary statement unless it is made through the parliamentary procedure.

Official Report

Proceedings that fall within the Official Report are published in Hansard. No transcript is published as Hansard unless the relevant proceeding actually occurred.
